RED BLUE SEQUENCE
204 X 252mm each unique print
The chases designed for moving and placing engraved polymer blocks shown on the Research page are incrementally adjustable and can generate sequential proofs – or film frames. Initially developed to avoid interference figures generated by overlaid lines, the chases became instruments for actively creating what printers called a moiré

RED BLACK BACKSWING
204 x 252mm each unique print
Sequential print sets from the film version of Tabby Twenty Nines. Proofs exploring interference figures generated by the adjustable registration chases formed the original film-frames, while at the same time identifying suitable moiré combinations for a variable edition of 29 prints on paper. A clip of Tabby Twenty Nines is on YouTube. According to the OED ‘Tabby’ described silk moiré before striped cats.

JAG ROCK LOOP
315 x 415 mm Variable Paired Edition of 45
The 45 different prints are offset pairs that formed film frames. In the three pairs of prints shown above, each left-hand version with square is an odd number, while the paired offset right-hand print with circle is an even edition number. Made for Paper Press Print, an Aberystwyth School of Art folio organised by Paul Croft 2012.
